Prerequisites for OS Deployment

Software requirements

Server

• Windows ADK for Windows 11
• Windows PE add-on for the ADK (must match the ADK version)

Client

• Firmware support for PXE is required to use network (PXE) boot — UEFI or legacy BIOS.
• When using USB devices to boot OSD, make sure the machine firmware and the USB device are compatible.

ARM processors not supported

Devices with ARM processors (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pro 11 with Snapdragon/ARM CPU) cannot be PXE booted using CapaInstaller OS Deployment. If you have a CapaOne Provisioning license, deploying ARM-based devices through CapaOne Provisioning may be an option.

Surface devices

Before attempting PXE boot on a new Surface device, ensure the UEFI firmware is fully updated. Brand-new Surface devices may fail PXE boot until a firmware update has been applied. Also verify that PXE Boot is enabled in UEFI and set correctly in the boot order.
