Windows 11 In-Place Upgrade Is Stuck

Microsoft has resolved this issue with the installation media released in December 2023.

We have created new content packages for Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2. Update your Cloud Updater configuration and execute the Cloud Updater package to download the new content packages.

What happened

On August 8, 2023, Microsoft released several updates that cause an in-place upgrade to be stuck, when upgrading to Windows 11 22H2.

These updates have been merged into the installation media (ISO) and therefore also affect CapaWinUpgrade.

We confirmed the issue when upgrading to Windows 11 22H2 using the Danish or English installation media from August or September.

The symptom of the issue is that the in-place upgrade gets stuck, typically at 14%.

What we did

The solution is to use the installation media from July 2023 or earlier and execute the in-place upgrade with dynamic updates disabled.

To address this issue, we retired the content packages for Windows 11 22H2 from August and September, and adjusted CapaWinUpgrade to execute Windows 11 in-place upgrades without dynamic updates.

To update CapaWinUpgrade, run the Cloud Updater package in your CapaInstaller environment.
