PerformanceGuard Release Notes

Changelog

All notable changes to PerformanceGuard are documented here. The format is based on Keep a Changelog.

[8.3 Patch 8] - 2024-01-10

The current downloadable build is PerformanceGuard Server 8.3.94 (8.3 Patch 9) with the matching 8.3.x agent. This version requires a new license file — contact CapaSystems support before upgrading.

[8.3 Patch 4] - 2022-10-21

[8.3 Patch 2] - 2022-03-15

This release includes bug fixes only.

  • [PG-18528] Agent reconfigured protocol to 500 when delivering a static report.
  • [PG-18545] Hotfix scripts were not created when installing a new server.

[8.3 Patch 1] - 2022-01-06

This release includes bug fixes only.

  • [PG-18437] PG agent 8.3 could not connect to the 8.2.95 server.
  • [PG-18417] Location bubble chart defect.

[8.3] - 2021-11-23

PerformanceGuard 8.3 integrates with CapaSystems’ cloud platform CapaOne. PerformanceGuard customers get free access to CapaOne Reliability (contact CapaSystems sales to have it added to the contract); it can only be integrated after upgrading both server and agents to 8.3.

This release contains an important security update — if you use CapaSystems Cloud Services, update as soon as possible to avoid degraded service.

Added

  • CapaOne Reliability — collects reliability information from all computers and shows it on a dashboard (requires the new CapaOne agent). PerformanceGuard integrates with it, so you can left-click a unit for direct access to its reliability information.
  • Agent detection of new Windows versions: Microsoft Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
  • CapaOne integration in the agent — collects the CapaOne agent identification; the CapaOne agent collects the reliability index and the Windows events that impact reliability.

  • Internet Explorer filters are being phased out — start using the Chromium filters.

[8.2 Patch 3] - 2021-07-12

This release includes bug fixes only. It overwrites the PG service memory settings (initial 2048 / max 4096); reapply any custom JvmMs / JvmMx values after upgrading, and run the Backend-Hotfix-823-91.sql hotfix script as the pguard database user.

[8.2 Patch 2] - 2021-06-01

This release includes bug fixes only. It overwrites the PG service memory settings (initial 2048 / max 4096); reapply custom JvmMs / JvmMx values after upgrading, and run the Backend-Hotfix-810-91 hotfix script.

[8.2 Patch 1] - 2021-04-09

This release includes bug fixes only, plus general performance optimization.

[8.2] - 2021-03-09

This release contains an important security update — if you use CapaSystems Cloud Services, update as soon as possible to avoid degraded service.

Added

  • Automatic agent update — agents can enrol in an automatic upgrade program (administered via an agent configuration group) to periodically download and install new releases.
  • Built-in agent installer download — download the latest agent directly from PerformanceGuard in the browser.
  • Dashboard slideshow — cycle through multiple dashboards without switching manually.
  • “What’s Going On” dashboards — global overview of poorly performing computers and processes by CPU, memory, or disk usage, with drill-down into per-process resource usage.
  • Updated network application creation dialog — easier to cancel changes and harder to misconfigure.
  • Verified against ServiceNow Paris and Quebec releases.
  • Agent now collects each computer’s UUID and serial number.

[8.1 Patch 1] - 2020-09-28

[8.1] - 2020-07-17

Added

  • Cloud Services with Office 365 monitoring — monitor cloud services using the IP data collected by agents, with three prebuilt dashboards (Common, Exchange, SharePoint, Skype) installed automatically when the service is enabled.
  • Scheduled reports — schedule recurring PDF exports of a dashboard and send them to subscribers, configured directly from the dashboard.
  • Improved installation wizard — all connections and properties are maintained from one file, and an administrative command prompt is no longer required.
  • Data export to Excel — download the raw data behind a widget’s tables and graphs.

[8.0] - 2020-04-21

Added

  • GUI makeover — redesigned layout with the classic top menu iconified and moved to the left, a Home button with Latest/Favorites dashboard thumbnails, and a Dashboard page with search filters.
  • Template dashboards — built-in dashboards replaced with a remotely maintained set of widget templates that can be added to a dashboard in one step.
  • Split application traffic by process — in addition to splitting by server, traffic can now be split by the process defined by the application.
  • ServiceNow Incident Management Connector certified with the ServiceNow Orlando release.

[7.6] - 2020-01-28

  • Chromium-based web measurements — support for both Chrome and Edge (Chromium), with simpler, less error-prone filter setup and automatic browser-plugin installation.
  • Fullscreen widgets — expand small widgets to fill the browser window.
  • Relational dashboards — guided navigation from one dashboard to the next relevant one.

[7.5] - 2019-10-22

Added

  • Web Timer for Google Chrome — measure web page load times in Chrome, as previously possible with Internet Explorer, with the measured time viewable directly in the browser.

[7.2] - 2017-08-15

  • BTM widget — set up and compare Business Transaction Monitoring measurements across computers and locations.
  • REST API — access database data over a versioned REST API with CORS support.

  • Unified login — operators are no longer prompted for the password multiple times.

[7.1] - 2017-03-28

  • Application Performance Overview widget — compare performance of multiple applications across multiple locations and metrics, with automatic data-resolution selection and toggleable min/max areas.

[7.0] - 2016-11-10

First release after moving to a more agile strategy with smaller, more frequent releases.

  • A completely new way of accessing collected data using customizable dashboards with intuitive widgets, primarily aimed at service desks, including a built-in computer-overview dashboard.
  • A dashboard of instructional videos that updates automatically without upgrading PerformanceGuard.
