# Can not Install AutoSteps

> Why AutoSteps installation fails, starting with the PerformanceGuard agent that must be installed first.

<font style="color: #404040;">**Possible Causes and Solutions:**</font>

<font style="color: #404040;">AutoSteps is showing error messages when trying to install. Here are some of the reasons why:</font>

- **PerformanceGuard Agent must be installed**

Please ensure that you have PerformanceGuard Agent 7.3 installed on your computer. If you don't have it already installed it on your computer then see [Install PerformanceGuard Agents](/performanceguard/installation/install-performanceguard-agents/).

AutoSteps runs as a User and not as a Service.

- **PerformanceGuard Agent isn't compatible**

You can not install AutoSteps if you are running older version of PerformanceGuard Agent. AutoSteps will only be installed with PerformanceGuard Agent 7.3 or higher.
