# Windows Configurations

> Create Windows configurations, assign them to endpoints and groups, see where they're applied, and set their priority.

Windows configurations control how CapaOne features behave on your Windows endpoints. You manage
them under **Windows → Configurations**. There are two configuration types, each on its own tab:

![Windows Configurations list with Privileges and DriverInstaller tabs and the Name, Updated By, Priority, Endpoints and Groups columns](/attachments/capaone/windows-configurations--configuration-list.png)

| Tab | Configures | Requires |
|---|---|---|
| **Privileges** | Session and process elevation for standard users. See [Privilege Manager Configuration Settings](/capaone/privilege-manager/privilege-manager-configuration-settings/). | Privilege Manager |
| **DriverInstaller** | What end users see when drivers are installed. See [Driver Installer Configuration](/capaone/provision-manager/driver-installer-configuration/). | Provision Manager |

You only see the tabs for the features your organization has.

## Create a configuration

1. Go to **Windows → Configurations** and click **New**.
2. If you're asked for a **Configuration type**, select the type you want.
3. Enter a name and fill in the settings. Configuration names must be unique within a type.
4. Click **Create**.

For step-by-step instructions per type, see
[Create a Privilege Manager Configuration](/capaone/privilege-manager/create-a-privilege-manager-configuration/)
and [Driver Installer Configuration](/capaone/provision-manager/driver-installer-configuration/).

## The configuration list

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Name** | The configuration name. Click it to open the configuration. |
| **Updated By** | Who changed the configuration last, and when. |
| **Priority** | The configuration's priority within its type. Click it to change the order. |
| **Endpoints** | The number of endpoints the configuration is assigned to directly. |
| **Groups** | The number of groups the configuration is assigned to. |

The row menu has **Assignment** (**Direct** or **Groups**), **Edit**, **Rename**, and **Delete**.

## Assign a configuration

A configuration does nothing until it's assigned. You can assign it directly to endpoints, or to
groups so that every endpoint in the group gets it.

1. Open the configuration and select the **Assignment** tab.
2. Select **Direct** to assign endpoints, or **Group** to assign groups.
3. Click **Assign**. Select the endpoints or groups under **Available** and move them to
   **Assigned**.
4. Click **View** to return to the list of assigned items.

You can also assign configurations from a group's page, and in an
[enrollment configuration](/capaone/enrollment/windows-enrollment/) so that new endpoints get
them when they enroll.

## See where a configuration is applied

Open the configuration and select the **Endpoints** tab. For each endpoint you see:

- **Status** — **Applied**, or **Not Applied** if another configuration of the same type takes
  priority.
- **Assignment** — whether the endpoint has the configuration directly, through one or more
  groups, or both.

Select **View groups** on a row to see which groups give the endpoint the configuration.

## Set the priority

When an endpoint has more than one configuration of the same type, the configuration with the
highest priority applies. Priority is ranked separately for **Privileges** and
**DriverInstaller** configurations.

1. On the configuration list, select the priority icon (**Change priority for configurations**),
or click a configuration's **Priority** bar.
2. Drag the configurations into the order you want. Priority **1** is marked
   **Highest Priority**.
3. Click **Save**.

A new configuration starts with the lowest priority. When you change the order, the affected
endpoints recalculate their configurations. See
[Configuration Priority](/capaone/reference/configuration-priority/) for how priority works across
CapaOne.

## Delete a configuration

Open the row menu and select **Delete**. CapaOne tells you how many endpoints are affected before
you confirm. Deleting a configuration also removes it from groups and enrollment configurations.
