# Update Drivers on Windows Endpoints

> Find Windows endpoints with driver updates available, install the updates from the driver list, an endpoint's page, or a workflow, and check which models are supported.

Source: https://docs.capaone.com/capaone/provision-manager/update-drivers-on-windows-endpoints/
Product: CapaOne — a separate CapaSystems product; do not apply this page to any other.

CapaOne detects driver updates for supported Windows endpoints automatically. The updates are
installed when you start them: from the driver list, from an endpoint's page, or with an
[Automation](/capaone/application-manager/automation/) workflow.

:::note[Before you start]
Driver updates require Provision Manager. The endpoint's hardware model must be supported. See
[Check which models are supported](#check-which-models-are-supported).
:::

## How updates are detected

The CapaOne Agent reports the drivers installed on the endpoint. CapaOne compares them with its
driver catalog for the endpoint's model, operating system, and architecture, and marks the
endpoint as having updates available when newer drivers exist. CapaOne also re-checks all
endpoints against the catalog once a week.

To make an endpoint report its drivers right away, select **Request → Scan drivers** on the
endpoint's page.

## Install driver updates on several endpoints

1. Go to **Windows → Provision** and select the **Drivers** tab.
2. Select the **Update Available** status on the left.
3. Select the endpoints you want to update. Use **Name or model** to search.
4. Click **Install**.
5. In the **Update Drivers** dialog, click **Update**.

The endpoints move to **In Progress** and then to **Up-to-Date**, **Restart Required**, or
**Failed**. You can also follow the updates on the
[Operations in Progress](/capaone/windows-management/operations-in-progress/) tab.

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Update Available** | Newer drivers are available for the endpoint. |
| **In Progress** | Drivers are being installed. The **Workflow** column shows the workflow that started the update, if any. |
| **Restart Required** | Drivers are installed, but the endpoint must restart to finish. |
| **Up-to-Date** | The endpoint has the latest drivers from the catalog. |
| **Failed** | The last driver installation failed. |

How the end user is asked to install and restart is set by the endpoint's
[driver installer configuration](/capaone/provision-manager/driver-installer-configuration/).

## Install driver updates on one endpoint

1. Open the endpoint's page and select the **Drivers** tab.
2. Click **Update** or **Update all**.

The tab lists each driver with its name, provider, category, status, and the current and available
version. You can sort the list by name or category.

If a driver has the status **Outranked**, another driver takes precedence for the same device. This
can happen when several drivers are installed for the same device, or when Windows uses its own
default driver instead.

## Update drivers automatically

To install driver updates on a schedule, create a scheduled workflow with the action that
updates Windows drivers. The action has no options. See [Automation](/capaone/application-manager/automation/).

## Check which models are supported

To see the models in the driver catalog, click **Supported Models** on the
**Windows → Provision → Dashboard** tab. The list shows the vendor, model, operating system, and
the hardware identifiers used to match the model.

Driver updates are available for supported models from these vendors:

- Dell
- HP
- Lenovo
- Microsoft
- Dynabook

Virtual machines and models that aren't in the catalog are shown as **Not Supported**. On the
endpoint's **Drivers** tab, they show the message "This computer model is not supported by
CapaOne Drivers".
