Product: CapaInstaller — a separate CapaSystems product; do not apply this page to any other.

A device from Apple Business Manager uses the DEP profile assigned to it the next time it runs Setup Assistant. You assign profiles in **System Administration**, on the devices of your DEP server.

:::note[Before you start]
- Create at least one DEP profile. See [Create a DEP Profile](/capainstaller/the-capainstaller-console/system-administration/how-to-use-system-administration/how-to-use-apple-business-manager-apple-dep/create-a-dep-profile/).
- In Apple Business Manager, assign the devices to your CapaInstaller MDM server, and then synchronize the DEP server so the devices appear under **Devices**.
:::

## Assign a profile to devices

1. In **System Administration**, expand **Software Accounts → Apple Device Enrollment Programs**, expand your DEP server, and select **Devices**.
2. Select one or more devices, right-click, and select **Assign Profile...**.
3. In the **Assign Profile** dialog, select the **Profile**.
4. Enter a **Changelog** description and click **Ok**.

The profile is assigned at Apple, and the device list is synchronized. The devices use the profile the next time they run Setup Assistant. A device that is already set up must be erased first.

## Remove a profile from devices

1. Select the devices under **Devices**, right-click, and select **Remove Profile...**.
2. Enter a change description and click **Ok**.

The profile is removed at Apple, and the device list is synchronized.

## Set a default profile

A default profile is assigned automatically to new devices. During synchronization, CapaInstaller assigns the default profile to devices that are new to CapaInstaller and don't have a profile at Apple.

1. Expand **Profiles** under your DEP server.
2. Right-click the profile and select **Set profile as default**.
3. Enter a change description and click **Ok**.

To stop assigning a default profile, right-click the default profile and select **Clear default profile**. Devices that already got the profile keep it.

:::tip
Schedule the global Replicator task **Synchronize Apple Device Enrollment Program** so new devices get the default profile without a manual synchronization. See [Manage Global Replicator tasks schedule](/capainstaller/the-capainstaller-console/system-administration/how-to-use-system-administration/manage-global-replicator-tasks-schedule/).

## Pre-configure a device

You can set the unit label and the device name that a device gets when it enrolls, or enrolls again, in CapaInstaller.

1. Under **Devices**, right-click the device and select **Pre-Configure Device...**. **Current label** and **Current name** show the values that are already pre-configured, if any.
2. In **Unit Label**, enter the label for the device.
3. In **Rename Device**, enter the new device name.
4. Enter a **Changelog** description and click **Ok**.

Both fields start with the device's current name. If you leave a field filled in, that value is saved. Clear a field to remove that pre-configuration.

When the device enrolls, it gets the unit label, and CapaInstaller sends a command to rename the device.
