# Prerequisites for OS Deployment

## Software requirements

**Server**

- Windows ADK for Windows 11
- Windows PE add-on for the ADK (must match the ADK version)

**Client**

- Firmware support for PXE is required to use network (PXE) boot — UEFI or legacy BIOS.
- When using USB devices to boot OSD, make sure the machine firmware and the USB device are compatible.

:::caution[ARM processors not supported]
Devices with ARM processors (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pro 11 with Snapdragon/ARM CPU) **cannot be PXE booted** using CapaInstaller OS Deployment. If you have a CapaOne Provisioning license, deploying ARM-based devices through **CapaOne Provisioning** may be an option.

:::tip[Surface devices]
Before attempting PXE boot on a new Surface device, ensure the UEFI firmware is fully updated. Brand-new Surface devices may fail PXE boot until a firmware update has been applied. Also verify that PXE Boot is enabled in UEFI and set correctly in the boot order.
